Sometimes it's like students just don't want to learn. Here I am trying to help them learn things, and they are totally rebuking me. All they care about is growing up and raising the plantation.

I can feel a lot of things coming up in our country. Abraham Lincoln has been running for office, and I feel that if he wins a lot of controversy will start to come up.

Lately a lot of things have been happening in our country. Abraham Lincoln has just been elected president, and I fear that problems will rise along with his power.

Things have been getting out of hand. I live in Virginia, and a lot of people are questioning President Lincoln's ability to perform as president. That might actually be to nice. The people around me despise President Lincoln. I however, am still undecided.

Right now, President Lincoln is going up against congress in order to try to pass the abolitionist act. People are going crazy here.

I used to live in the south, however I fight for the north. Slavery is not my main reason for war, but it is the fact that the southern people think they get the right to ignore the governments demands.

Battles Fought: Gettysburg, Shiloh, Fort Knox

Thoughts and Views:
Slavery was started as a way to get things done cheaply. In America that’s basically what it was, it was to get the fields worked, and to supply necessary things, without having to pay the workers. This sounds good when you first hear it. All of a sudden it means more money and less work for you. Also, you think it’s ok because other countries at that time used slavery as a way to make more money. When the United States became a free country, a lot of land became much more available. America’s sense of laziness probably started to come out here because one of the first things we did as a country was set up the slave trade. The racism would come naturally. Obviously if you treat one group of people like they aren’t special then the other group of people will look start to believe it with their whole mindset. I wish that people around me would see that more clearly. I’m from the south, but I seem to be the only one down there who thinks that slavery isn’t the way to accomplish our goals. Also, it says in our own declaration that all people
are created equal. It’s to bad that our country can’t seem to just see past this.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what this war in our country will cause. It doesn’t seem like we’ll be united as one again. However if the south does win, and they become a separate country; I don’t think that things will be resolved. If you really think about it, many people have died in this war. Both sides have committed horrible things in regards to war. It’s hard to believe that a country that worked so hard to become one is now at each other’s throats. I’m fighting for the north because I believe what they are saying. I believe that the south can’t just decide to ignore congress. That’s what makes me mad. I know that the south has all the plantations that the north uses. However, it isn’t fair for them to use people. I think by the time this war is over the America will have a lot of trouble trying to reunite. First we have to clean up all the wreckage. That will cause us to try to help people out. Also, I think that whichever side wins the war, there will always be those groups of people that refuse to accept defeat. Right now, I think that our country will have a lot of difficulty getting back on our feet, however I know that if we did it once, we can do it again.

Almost a hundred years ago, our country had another war. We were fighting the British Empire because we were trying to free ourselves from their grasp. The King of England was controlling us from across the ocean, and besides the fact that we didn’t have a local leader; he was also practically a tyrant. People in that time knew that a war would probably start. The thirteen colonies decided that the best thing to do was to start a war.
The war was very difficult. If you think about it, it was practically a miracle. The British Empire had one of the most powerful militaries in the world. And we would have lost to them as well if it had not been for the guerilla warfare tactics we used. In fact, that is how we have fought from now on. We do still have battles that consist of field firing, however in some situations we have had to resort to guerilla tactics.
A lot of things caused the war. One of them was the British Government placing soldier’s in the homes of the people by force. You had no say whatsoever. Another thing was they started taxing the people a lot harder. Then they even started to make curfews to where you would be arrested if you were out to late. There were a lot of problems back then. It’s unfortunate that we have been having problems, because the thing no one wants to have is a split country.
